A WOMAN driver had the shock of her life when a crane crashed into her Nissan Micra.

The Kirkheaton woman, in her 30s, was travelling alone in stop-start traffic along Leeds Road, heading towards Huddersfield town centre.

She was on a straight stretch of road opposite the Leeds Road playing fields when the crane hit the rear of her car.

She said: “There was a big bang and I thought something had dropped onto my head.”

A crane from Emsley Crane Hire, based in Harrogate, had run into the back of her car, crushing the roof and boot and caving in the rear windscreen.

According to the woman, police were initially reluctant to attend as no injuries were reported. An officer and police vehicle, did, however, arrive an hour later and the officer removed glass from the road and moved the Micra to the side of the road.
