Father and son start speed camera fight

REMOVAL men told by police they were captured on camera doing nearly twice the speed limit in their furniture van plan to prove their innocence in court.

Keith Bellwood

A speed camera caught Keith Bellwood, of Bellwoods' Removals at Almondbury, doing 55mph in a 30mph zone along Wakefield Road, Moldgreen.

He received a letter from the police saying he was being fined and having three penalty points put on his licence.

But he and his son, Adrian, say it is impossible for the two-and-a-half-tonne wagon to pick up that kind of speed on the congested road.

They say it was in busy mid-morning traffic, pulling away from traffic lights.

The pair say the speed camera must have been faulty.

"There's no way on earth that we would be able to do that speed with the van approaching a bend," said Adrian.

His father is adamant he was doing only 30mph.

"I know he will have been. He doesn't even do 55mph on the motorway," said Adrian.

"He is 200% certain he wasn't speeding. We are now prepared to go to court."
