Patrick Stewart: Back to his roots
HOLLYWOOD star Patrick Stewart is heading back to his roots.
He is to raise money for a new Mirfield youth club by staging a live performance in Dewsbury in April.
Patrick, who was born in Mirfield, has agreed to top the bill at a fundraising event for the Gilder Hall Project at Dewsbury Town Hall on Friday, April 4.
Mr Geoff Walls, secretary of the project committee, said Patrick had confirmed the date with him last weekend.
"We correspond regularly by phone or e-mail," he said.
"Patrick is a Shakespearean actor and has promised to do a lot of excerpts from his previous shows.
"It is not often we get a Hollywood superstar in our midst."
Patrick was an aspiring actor in his teens and developed his own acting skills in the Gilder Hall youth club in Greenside Lane.
The show will include a performance by the newly formed Gilder Hall drama group.
The Kirklees Music Centre Swing Band will also play.
Sponsors are sought for the event, which will cost £2,500 to stage.
A video will be made of the evening, which will be copied and sold to the public.
