Council offers advice on CD

A NEW scheme has been set up to help people who cannot read find out about Kirklees Council services.

The council has installed seven new Listening Points in Kirklees, where people can listen to CDs containing information about health, housing and social care services provided by the council.

The CDs can be played at the Listening Point or taken away.

They are available in English, Urdu, Gujarati and other languages on request.

The listening points are at Batley Town Hall, Dewsbury's Walsh Building, Huddersfield Civic Centre 1, Cleckheaton Health Centre, Dewsbury Society for the Blind and the Southgate and Walpole family centres in Huddersfield.

Computers will soon be installed at these locations so people can see information on the council's website, www.kirklees.gov.uk.

Mohamed Iqbal, a social worker at the Dewsbury Society for the Blind, said: "Audio CDs are especially important for visually-impaired people."
