Shannon Matthews trial Day 6: Karen's TV appeal

THE jury trying the mother of Shannon Matthews was today played a montage of tearful TV appeals she made during her daughter’s 24 day disappearance.

The footage was shown as the trial of Karen Matthews, 33, and Michael Donovan, 40, resumed at Leeds Crown Court.

The trial was halted yesterday after it emerged Donovan needed further medical treatment after he was attacked in prison.

Today. the judge, Mr Justice McCombe, told the jury: "Following an X-ray Mr Donovan has been found to have suffered a fractured jaw. Hopefully well-treatable. He was in pain and unable to take some food.

"Surgery is not now required and he’s been given some suitable food in addition to painkillers."
