Shannon Matthews trial Day 13: Karen gives evidence

The jury was shown more television footage of Matthews together with Mr Meehan, taken during the time Shannon was missing.

Matthews agreed when Mr Goose said to her: "You seem to be quite affectionate with Craig during that time."

Referring to what Matthews said about Mr Meehan during the television footage, Mr Goose said: "The man you describe as your rock, you cried each other to sleep and held each other at night, is that the man you are saying has made you do all these things?"

Matthews replied: "Yes."

Matthews said she did not know why traces of the drugs Temazepam and Melcozine had been found in Shannon’s urine and hair.

Mr Goose said: "The same two drugs are in her system with you and with him (Donovan)."

Matthews said: "It’s a coincidence."

Later, the jury heard that a delivery driver overheard Alice Meehan, Mr Meehan’s mother, talking on the phone on the day Shannon was found.

Mark Goode said he was delivering a bed to Moorside Place on March 14 and heard Mrs Meehan say: "Don’t say nowt, just keep your mouth shut. They’ll never, ever find out."

He said: "Who she was speaking to, I don’t know."

Mr Goode said news about Shannon’s recovery was on the television as he entered the house.

He said: "As I went in, Sky News was on and I looked at the telly. I just said ’I’d burn that bastard’.

"This lady answered to me ’That’s a family member’."

Mr Goode said Mrs Meehan looked like she was "panicking".
