Hunting fans on the march

Pro-hunting campaigners at the Labour Party office on New Street, Slaithwaite

PRO-HUNT supporters pelted a Labour Party office with eggs and stuffed horse muck through the letter box during a protest yesterday.

More than 100 protesters gathered at the office on New Street, Slaithwaite, yesterday, to demand that Colne Valley Labour MP Kali Mountford should oppose a bill to ban hunting in December.

MPs have already voted to ban hunting, but this was opposed by the Lords, who said it should be allowed to continue under a licensing system.

Politicians will have a final vote in December as to whether hunting should be banned outright or allowed to continue.

Ms Mountford has revealed she has received 4,500 letters against hunting from her constituents with fewer than a dozen in support.

The protesters stopped traffic along New Street as they made their way to the office, some carrying placards stating Fight Prejudice, Fight The Ban.

Ms Mountford was supposed to be holding a surgery there yesterday but was unable to attend because she was suffering from flu.

Still, some of the protesters chanted "Kali out" and attacked the office with eggs, vowing to remove her as MP at the next General Election.

But Ms Mountford maintained she would not to change her mind on hunting: "I voted with my conviction as I think my constituents would expect me to do and I will not be intimidated into changing my vote.
