He ran 940 miles for charity.

And now there is no stopping Alan Boothroyd as he launches 400 runners on their way to taking part in the Woodland Challenge on Sunday.

Earlier this year Alan ran the 940 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groat’s in just 20 days – the equivalent of TWO marathons a day. He completed it on April 17.

To mark his incredible achievement Alan donned his running gear and received a certificate from Yorkshire Air Ambulance in recognition of his fundraising efforts for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Keep it Up Campaign.

He turned out at the John Smith's Stadium to show off his certificate and thank everyone who supported him with his challenge which has raised £21,000 for the charity.

The 52-year-old, from Lascelles Hall, was invited to officially launch Sunday’s Woodland Challenge run which this year has a brand new course .

It returns to its roots as a truly ‘woodland’ trail in the woods surrounding Pennine Business Park in Bradley.

The race is being organised by the Stadium Runners. It starts at 10.30am and costs £12 (unattached) and £10 (attached) to enter.

Free parking is available off Dyson Wood Way and runners of all ages and abilities are welcome, plus there’s a Fruitypot Fun Run prior to the main race.
