Two people were seriously injured after a motorbike crashed with a car in Slaithwaite in the early hours of this morning.

The rider was thrown from the motorbike and became trapped between a metal wire fence and a stone wall and had to be freed by fire crews.

His passenger was also seriously injured in the crash which happened on Manchester Road.

Both casualties were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Huddersfield Fire Brigade Watch Commander Andy Thornes said: “Both rider and passenger had suffered serious injuries and police and ambulance were already at the scene on our arrival.

“The rider had become trapped between a wire metal fence and a stone wall and we used an electric saw to release him from the wreckage. He was trapped for around 30 minutes.”

Police closed Manchester Road between Ned Lane and Back o’Dam for several hours while they investigated the crash.
