Mystery surrounds the closure of Salendine Nook Post Office.

The New Hey Road branch temporarily closed on October 10 due to ‘operational’ reasons but remains shut leaving customers baffled.

A middle-aged woman who lives nearby but who didn’t want to be named, said: “There were two very polite young men who worked there with their mother. I don’t know what’s happening.”

And Examiner weatherman Paul Stevens, who has run his florists just down the road for many years, was similarly perplexed.

He said: “There are all sorts of rumours going around but nobody knows anything really.”

One of those caught out by the closure was Huddersfield businessman Mark Robertson who lives in Outlane, just a mile or two away but who turned up to find it closed. Many other customers have also turned up unaware of the closure.

A Post Office spokesman said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Salendine Nook Post Office branch in Huddersfield due to operational reasons.

“We would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore the service to the community as soon as possible and are committed to maintaining services in the area. In the meantime, customers can access Post Office services at our Lindley, Marsh and Town End branches.”
