Keen cyclist Nathan Clegg is hoping for a sporting dream to come true as he bids to line up alongside Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee.

Nathan, 36, of Linthwaite, has been nominated to join Dewsbury-born Alistair’s team in a charity triathlon challenge.

A member of Holmfirth Cycling Club, Nathan applied to join Team Al at the Macmillan Brownlee Tri North at Harewood House in Leeds on Sunday, September 21.

Triathlete brothers Alistair and Jonathan will go head to head in the gruelling swim-ride-run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Nathan, a graphic designer at One 17 Design in Armitage Bridge, was selected as one of three candidates to complete the 26km cycle at the sprint triathlon.

But to take part in the event Nathan must win a website vote – and he is urging people to vote for him.

“It would be fantastic to take part,” said Nathan. “Alistair is an amazing athlete and I would be made up to be part of his team.”

Though he’s only doing the bike ride, Nathan is no stranger to triathlons. He has completed two of the Holmfirth triathlons.

“It’s a complete onslaught for the body,” said Nathan. “It’s all about giving everything in three disciplines. You get out of the water feeling like you are dying, then you get on a bike and your limbs won’t work and then you have to run.”

Nathan, who took part in the town centre Huddersfield Criterium in July, cycles around 150 miles a week.

Last Sunday he completed the Monster Sportive in South Wales, a 120-mile ride with a climb of 13,000ft.

“I’m in good shape,” said Nathan. “I hope people will vote for me. I will give it everything.”

Voting closes at 8pm on Sunday. Click here to vote.
