Strictly star held over 'assault'

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ricky Whittle has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a row outside a city centre nightclub.

The actor is being held at a police station in Liverpool following the alleged incident.

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 29-year-old man from the Billinge area of Greater Manchester has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He remains in police custody where he will be questioned.

"This follows an incident in Duke Street, Liverpool city centre."

It is understood Whittle's car allegedly struck a photographer as he drove away from Liverpool's Parr Street Studios, where he had attended a party with colleagues from the Channel Four soap Hollyoaks.

The BBC did not make an immediate comment on the arrest of Whittle, who has been a long-standing favourite to win this year's Strictly competition.
