Riot victim's father to face court

A bereaved father who called for calm at the height of last summer's riots has denied causing grievous bodily harm during an alleged road rage incident.

Tariq Jahan, 46, made an emotional appeal for peace just hours after the death of his 21-year-old son in Birmingham in August.

During a brief hearing at the city's crown court he pleaded not guilty to one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and an alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The charges relate to an alleged incident in Handsworth, Birmingham on July 6 last year.
