Those figures gave the highest marks to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Dalton and Newsome Junior School

It meant double cause for celebration at Newsome, which just last month was also named as outstanding by government inspectors from Ofsted who visited the school in February.

The results were welcomed by headteacher Jean Farmer and her team.

Mrs Farmer said that some of the children within the school faced high levels of disadvantage and it was particularly good to see them achieve and be successful.

“It is the individual support which we give to the children which result in their outstanding achievements,” she said.

“Here at the junior school we build on the wonderful foundation work that is done at Berry Brow Infant School. Our children show fantastic progress and this is reflected in the value added scores in the tables.

“As the children progress to Newsome High School and Sports College they build again on that success and continue to develop their education further.

“The forecast for our current year six children is just as pleasing and continues the good work and results which have been delighting children, parents and staff here for the past four or five years.”
