Agnel strikes gold in 200m freestyle

France's Yannick Agnel has won Olympic gold in the men's 200 metre freestyle at the Aquatics Centre, while Missy Franklin has won gold in the women's 100m backstroke for the United States with her compatriot Matt Grevers winning gold in the men's 100m backstroke.

Ruta Meilutyte claimed a gold medal for Lithuania in the 100m breaststroke. The 15-year-old led from start to finish to touch in one minute 05.47 seconds as she held off a fast-finishing Rebecca Soni, the Beijing silver medallist.

Japan's Kaori Matsumoto won Olympic gold over Romanian Corina Caprioriu after the latter was disqualified during the Golden Score period in the women's under-57kg judo final at ExCeL. Caprioriu was penalised for trying to hold Matsumoto's leg to flip over the Japanese.

America's Marti Malloy won a bronze medal after defeating defending Olympic champion Giulia Quintavalle from Italy and the second bronze medal was bagged by Automne Pavia from France after she defeated Hedvig Karakas by a swift leg sweep which resulted in the Hungarian's fall.

In the men's under 73kg category, Russia's Mansur Isaev clinched gold after defeating Japan's Riki Nakaya who was unable to prevent Isaev from completing his victory. Mongolian Nyam-Ochir Sainjargal won the bronze after making a comeback through the repechage, defeating Dex Elmont from the Netherlands.

The second bronze went to Frenchman Ugo Legrand who defeated current world champion Wang Ki-Chun in an unexpected victory.

Teenage Chinese diving pair Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan claimed gold in the 10m platform synchro.

Romanian shooter Alin George Moldoveanu won a titanic tussle with world number one Niccolo Campriani of Italy to claim gold in the men's 10m air rifle. Moldoveanu held his nerve with a final shot of 10.3 to hold off his rival, who finished just 0.6 points behind.

China's Li Xueying won Olympic gold in the women's 58kg weightlifting division, while Kim Un Guk won gold for North Korea in the men's 62kg weightlifting competition at ExCeL.
