A 58-year-old pedestrian has died after he was struck by a car in a horror crash in Huddersfield.

The tragedy happened at 10.30pm on Thursday night on Wakefield Road, Dalton when the man was fatally injured by a BMW M3 convertible.

The victim, who is believed to be local but has not been named, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by ambulance but sadly died of his injuries a short time later.

Police believe a second BMW may also have been involved and subsequently two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

No one else was injured.

Police cordoned off the scene near The Stag pub the following the collision to allow emergency services to deal with the scene.

Accident investigators were called to help with the inquiry

PC Andy McManus, from West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “The incident occurred around 10.28pm close to the Stag public house when the pedestrian, who is a local man, was struck by a blue coloured BMW M3 convertible vehicle. He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but sadly died of his injuries a short time later.

“The 22-year-old driver of the BMW M3 was arrested from the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

“A 37-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“This followed reports a black coloured BMW 5 series vehicle he was driving, could also have been involved in the collision.”

Any witnesses or anyone seeing the vehicles in the moments prior to the collision are asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via: 101 and quote reference number 1856 of May 15.

A man from Holmfirth has died after a road tragedy in North Wales.

The man, in his 70s, has not been named but is thought to have collapsed at the wheel of a car on the A55 in Llanddulas on Tuesday.

The Citroen Picasso hit a crash barrier and veered on to the hard shoulder.
