Long queues greeted the opening of a new Aldi store in Elland.

Over 200 shoppers queued outside the newly-built store on South Lane before the store was officially opened by manager Stewart Proctor.

To celebrate the grand opening, Aldi handed out golden envelopes to the first 100 people in the queue, each containing a range of prizes and food samples from its range of award-winning products to welcome customers into the store.

Pat Gummer and Katie Horsefield both walked away with the grand prizes of 40” HD Ready TVs.

The opening of the store is one of several Aldi stores to be opened across West Yorkshire this year.

The Elland store opening has also created 25 new jobs within the local community.

Mr Proctor said: “There was a fantastic buzz down at the store and it was great to see so many people turn out for our store’s opening event.

“The team and I were pleased to introduce shoppers to the new store, as customers will be able to take advantage of our new product lines at affordable prices.”
