New Mill school Kirkroyds Infants is 4th with swine flu

A FOURTH school in Kirklees has been hit by swine flu.

A case of swine flu has been detected at Kirkroyds Infant School in New Mill. The school remains open as usual after parents were issued with advice.

Three other schools in Huddersfield and Dewsbury have been hit by the disease so far.

One pupil at Castle Hill School in Newsome was diagnosed with the condition on Friday morning.

Last night, Castle Hill parents were told the school would not open again for the rest of this term, which ends on Friday.

And three pupils were diagnosed with swine flu at the Islamic Education, a private boarding school in Savile Town.

Abdullah Patel, a teacher at the school, died a short time after being given the diagnosis.

Nine-year-old Asmaa Hussain was a pupil at Thornhill Junior and Infant School until she tragically died of swine flu earlier this month.

It comes as headteachers of all Kirklees schools have been asked by the council to send letters out to the parents about the incidents.

It contains advice on what action to take if their child or family member develops symptoms.

And in line with guidance issued from the Department of Health, all schools with confirmed cases of swine flu will remain open.

In a U-turn, bosses at Castle Hill School decided that the school will now close until the end of term.

NHS Kirklees, who oversee all non-emergency health services in the borough, are raising awareness of swine flu symptoms and treatment options.
