CLUB/GROUP NAME: West Yorkshire Vocal Academy Rock/Gospel Choir.

THE BASICS: We are a group of adults of various ages and backgrounds who come together to enjoy singing. Rehearsals are Mondays from 7pm-8pm. at Greenfield Family Centre in Dalton. Sessions are run as vocal technique lessons as well as choral rehearsals. The group was only set up in January and so is very new, but we are working towards a performance and workshop day in July and will be performing regularly from then and hope to appear in competitions such as the Mrs Sunderland music festival next year. We cover all genres of music but primarily Gospel and arrange much of our own music. The main aim of the group is to have fun and get to know other like-minded people, but emphasis is put on building vocal confidence and achieving personal goals.
IS EXPERIENCE NEEDED:No experience is needed, just a passion to sing and have fun. You do not need any musical training or background, just a sense of creativity. There is no audition, rehearsals are informal and interested parties are welcome to come and join in to see if it is their cup of tea!
WHAT DOES IT COST? Nothing. The sessions are paid for by the academy, all music is provided and staff gladly give up their time for this fun ensemble! There are no joining fees or annual payments, you may however be asked to pay a small amount for a choir uniform (approximately £10 for a Academy polo shirt) - a small price to pay to be a member of such a dynamic group.
WHY JOIN?Why not?! You will receive tuition from the principal of the academy, a highly respected vocal teacher and performer in her own right, meet like-minded performers, achieve a sense of fulfilment and enjoyment of your voice and get a free cup of tea and biscuit! Singing out loud has also been clinically proven to reduce stress and improve mental and physical health. What better way to spend your Monday evening!
