I WAS absolutely furious when I read the article "Windfarm Myths" (Examiner, January 16).
What gives Dr Caroline Lucas, Euro-MP for the South-East, the right to voice a strong opinion about the proposed wind turbines on Pool Hill, Denby Dale, when in her own words "She is not aware of the detail of the site"?
I would like to appraise Dr Lucas of some detail and hopefully enlighten her on why these 410ft turbines are not right for Denby Dale, the area that I live in, have grown to love and represent on Kirklees Council.
Dr Lucas states in her article: "People complain about the noise when they stand near them. But how many people complaining have stood near one?"
I have to ask Dr Lucas if she has ever stood near a wind turbine, because people do not complain about noise at the site of windfarms, because there are usually no houses there and at the windfarm site itself noise is low, not high.
But hundreds of metres away noise levels are higher and can become very unpleasant especially as turbines have the potential of operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 52 weeks a year.
It is not only the audible noise that creates the problems but the inaudible low-frequency noise. Research has shown that low-frequency noise can cause headaches, migraines, nausea, dizziness and palpitations.
I would like to ask Dr Lucas if she lives within 400m of a wind turbine of the proposed size. That is how far a listed building is from the Pool Hill site. The hamlet of Kitchenroyd in the Dearne Valley below Pool Hill is within 750m of the site and will be 800m below the tip of the blades.
Is that a sensible location for turbines of such a size? I do not think so and I ask Dr Lucas that before she ventures forward again with opinions she is in receipt of all the facts.
