Champagne evening to boost charity funds

HUDDERSFIELD night spot USB is hosting an evening of champagne, glitz and glamour - all in the name of charity.

The Kirkgate bar is hosting a party in its VIP lounge tonight to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Celebrities including stars from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Huddersfield's Footballers' Wives star Zoe Lucker have been invited to the event.

Players from Huddersfield Town and the Huddersfield Giants are expected to attend.

A host of faces from the local entertainment and pub industry will also be there.

Guests will be welcomed with a champagne reception and canapes, before being entertained by comedians and DJs.

There will also be a fundraising auction and raffle, featuring prizes such as signed Huddersfield Town footballs, tickets to Giants' matches, free passes for nightclub Visage, a meal at the Huddersfield Hotel and admission to a free VIP area at Shout! club on Kirkgate.

Michael Fish, who promotes USB, said the event was a chance for the bar's new managers to find out what changes people would like to see at the venue. He said Cancer Research UK had been chosen to benefit because it was a cause close to his heart. His father had suffered from cancer, but was now in recovery.

Mr Fish said: "We wanted someone to benefit from this event.

"My dad is fine now and was helped by Cancer Research UK, so they were a natural choice."

The event starts at 7.30pm and will continue into the early hours.
