Huddersfield actress Jodie Whittaker is heading back to the seaside in Broadchurch.

She will reprise her role as Beth Latimer when the third and final series of the hit drama hits the screens.

Filming is due to start in the summer in Dorset.

Jodie’s character is the mum of murdered schoolboy Danny Latimer and the first two series earned rave reviews.

Her return has been confirmed by TV bosses who have also announced Julie Hesmondhalgh, of Coronation Street and Happy Valley fame, and Sarah Parish among the new cast announced for the third and final series of Broadchurch.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman, who will be reprising their roles as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller, will also be joined by Murdered By My Boyfriend’s Georgina Campbell, Jekyll and Hyde creator Charlie Higson and Home Fires’ Mark Bazeley.

Creator Chris Chibnall described the eight-part final series as an “emotional farewell” as Hardy and Miller reunite for the last time to investigate a serious sexual assault in the close-knit Dorset community.

“I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me.”

Based on a year of research with police advisers and Dorset-based organisations that help victims of sexual assault, the storyline will look at the damage inflicted on friendships and relationships as a result of the attack and test the strength of the community as they come under scrutiny from Hardy and Miller.

Filming will commence this summer in Bridport, West Bay and Clevedon, which have featured as locations in Broadchurch series one and two.
