With this depressing summer weather and the barrage of Olympics on the TV, those who want to seek an alternative form of entertainment might find that the films coming soon to the local Huddersfield cinema could provide fulfilling enjoyment.

The wonderful thing about the cinema is that these ‘pleasure palaces’ give variety, fun and a great experience for all family members. Many of the new releases (there are 52 in August and 36 in September) totally immerse the viewer and allow a little escapism from everyday life.

What to see

First of all check that you have the correct film times before setting out. The last thing anyone needs is to arrive at the cinema and discover that all that is showing is a horror film rather than the gentle comedy that had been so well reviewed on the local radio.

Some of the big forthcoming releases should provide enough variety to suit all tastes.  For example, those with a taste for witty 3D animation that will amuse both adults and children alike may well enjoy ‘ParaNorman’.

Well-known actors including Jessica Aflleck and John Goodman provide the characters’ voices and the film’s boy hero, Norman, is voiced by Kodi Smith McPhee. His character takes on zombies, ghouls and ghosts in a bid to save his hometown and although it isn’t due for release until September there is already plenty of hype surrounding this offering.

Grand style

One of the most lavish film productions that is due on our screens in October is the classic ‘Anna Karenina’. Taken from the famous Tolstoy novel, this is the ultimate in tragic and dramatic love story.  T

The cast includes, Jude Law, Keira Knightley and Aaron Johnson and the screenplay is by Tom Stoppard. The story is extremely moving and those who love costume drama and an excellent story will adore this film. Make sure that you take handkerchiefs though, reports suggest you may well need them!

Yorkshire Lad

‘Keith Lemon, The Film’ is also due for release at the end of August and features the one and only local lad, Keith Lemon.

The film follows Keith on his search for fame and fortune and his desire for success in London. He eventually becomes a billionaire, following in the footsteps of his idol, Richard Branson, though true to comedic form he then loses it all. This British feature also stars Kelly Brook and Leigh Francis and will provide all of Keith’s many fans with an opportunity to marvel at his on-screen exploits.

Dreams

Cinemas are most definitely a place for dreams and with all the stresses of everyday life, including the ever-increasing gloomy economic news; we all need a place where use of the imagination is demonstrated.

We can lose ourselves in the lives and tales of the cinematic heroes and heroines shown on screens and films have sustained families for over a century with their entertainment. The development of 3D and surround sound only enhances this experience and makes cinemas the best place to be this year.
