CONSERVATIVES IN TURMOIL OVER HEATHROW THIRD RUNWAY DECISION

Theresa May's decision to back Heathrow expansion plunged the Conservatives into turmoil as Cabinet ministers hit out at the move and a prominent MP quit.

Tory supporting councils are poised to support legal action challenging the plans and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson insisted the scheme was "undeliverable".

Conservative bosses were forced to announce the party would not fight the by-election triggered by Zac Goldsmith in protest over the third runway.

CALAIS JUNGLE CLEARANCE TO CONTINUE

Workers are expected to continue bulldozing ramshackle shacks and tents as day three of the operation to rid Calais of its "Jungle" camp gets under way.

On Tuesday afternoon a small team of workers wearing orange jumpsuits and white helmets started demolishing makeshift shelters at the edge of the rat-infested slum.

The second day of the operation to clear the camp saw 1,636 people, including 372 minors, passed through the registration centre, bringing the total number for both days to over 4,000.

Chancellor Philip Hammond is facing an £84 billion black hole in public finances fuelled by Brexit in next month's mini-budget, a think tank has warned.

Analysis of projections by independent forecasters shows the economy is expected to be £60 billion smaller in 2020 than was expected just before the referendum, the Resolution Foundation said.

It suggests that earnings will be around £700 a year lower than had been predicted by the end of the parliament and around 600,000 more people will be out of work.

Baking contest The Great British Bake Off will air for the last time on the BBC tonight as the remaining three contestants hope to rise to the occasion and be crowned the series winner.

Andrew Smyth, Jane Beedle and Candice Brown are the finalists for series seven, the BBC's last run of the popular amateur baker competition before it moves to its new home at Channel 4.

Rolls-Royce aerospace engineer Smyth, 25, garden designer Beedle, 61, and 31-year-old PE teacher Brown withstood the heat of the kitchen against nine other hopeful cake creators to reach the showdown for the title of 2016's best baker.

BBC 'STRUCK DEAL WITH POLICE OVER RAID ON SIR CLIFF RICHARD'S HOME'

Sir Cliff Richard claims police gave the BBC a "running commentary" of a raid on his home, in legal papers outlining his £1.5 million court battle, it has been reported.

The star lodged a High Court writ stating that the broadcaster struck a deal with South Yorkshire Police, according to The Sun.

Sir Cliff, 76, is claiming aggravated damages and is requesting a "significant" portion of his legal costs are paid by the force and the corporation, it is said.

WATCHDOG LAUNCHES PROBE INTO 'EXCESSIVE PRICES' FOR NHS DRUGS

Drug companies accused of charging "excessive prices" to the NHS are under investigation, the competition watchdog has announced.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation into suspected breaches of competition law by pharmaceutical firms on Tuesday.

If the companies are found to have broken the law they face fines of up to 10% of their turnover.

SPAIN 'ALLOWS RUSSIAN WARSHIPS TO REFUEL FOR ALEPPO BOMBING CAMPAIGN'

Spain is coming under criticism for reportedly preparing to allow the refuelling of Russian warships en route to bolstering the bombing campaign against the besieged Syrian city Aleppo.

Warships led by the smoke-belching aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov are expected to take on fuel and supplies at the Spanish port of Ceuta after passing through the Straits of Gibraltar on Wednesday morning, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The report comes after Royal Navy vessels monitored Russian warships as they began to move through the English Channel last week.

CRIME WILL NOT BE CUT WITH LACK OF ACTION ON YOUNG ADULT OFFENDERS, REPORT WARNS

More victims will suffer crime unless the regime for dealing with young adult criminals is overhauled, a Commons report has warned.

MPs attacked the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and National Offender Management Service (NOMS) for a "lack of action" and "tinkering around the edges".

They said chances to cut crime would be missed if the approach to offenders aged between 18 and 25 continues to fail.

BROTHER AND SISTER AMONG FOUR DEAD IN AUSTRALIA THEME PARK RIDE ACCIDENT

A brother and sister were among four adults who were killed when a river rapids ride malfunctioned at a popular theme park on Australia's east coast.

Police said two young children were fortunate to be alive after the accident at Dreamworld, a a park on Queensland state's Gold Coast.

The Thunder River Rapids ride whisks people in circular rafts along a fast-moving, artificial river, with a conveyor belt helping move the rafts through the water.

APPLE REVEALS SLOWING OF IPHONE SALES AS SMARTPHONE MARKET APPROACHES SATURATION

iPhone sales continue to slow as Apple's latest financial results revealed a 5% drop in sales when compared to the same quarter of 2015.

The technology giant warned of such a slide in its financial forecasts earlier this year as the smartphone market begins to reach saturation - with most consumers now owning a viable device and upgrading less frequently.

Apple reported total iPhone sales for the three months to September 24 of more than 45.5 million units - up around five million on the last quarter - but still down on the same period last year. The firm's total revenue for the quarter was 46.9 billion dollars (£38.4bn), down 9% on the same period last year.
