Emergency crews were called to a smash which partially closed a busy Fartown junction on Saturday night.

Police and paramedics were sent to the traffic light junction of Bradford Road and Willow Lane at just after 8.30pm.

The crossroads, opposite the Slubbers Arms public house, was blocked on the Huddersfield-bound side for a time while emergency services dealt with the aftermath.

Video footage tweeted to the Examiner by passing motorist Matt Jaggar showed a small grey hatchback with extensive front-end damage. A traffic light column outside The Barber Shop had been knocked flat.

There was an ambulance and several police vehicles on the scene.

Matt tweeted: “Big collision in #Huddersfield. Two cars involved. One traffic light decimated.”

West Yorkshire Police have been unable to provide more details about the smash or whether anyone was injured.

Overnight the demolished traffic light column was removed and the hole it left re-surfaced.
