Dozens of town-centre car parking spaces in Huddersfield are to be taken out of use for 10 weeks.

Essential resurfacing work is to start next Monday on the top two levels of Huddersfield bus station car park in Upperhead Row.

Kirklees Council will be removing the old worn membrane, laying a new one and remarking the parking bays on both levels 5 and 6 of the bus station.

The work is expected to take up to 10 weeks to complete, and both levels 5 and 6 will be closed whilst the work takes place.

During the work, some spaces on level 4 will also be cordoned off. This is so that the contractors can safely store their equipment on site.

It means that dozens of spaces will be closed to the public.

In order to provide more long stay parking options, during this time, level 3 of the car park will operate as a long stay car park, with the minimum daytime charge being for 5 hours.

The council said alternative long-stay parking is available around Huddersfield ring road including Springwood, Cambridge Road and St Andrews Road. There are also short stay car parks.
