MORE than 100 people attended a meeting last night to discuss plans for a windfarm in Denby Dale.

Two turbines are being proposed for a site in the Pool Hill area of the village.

Campaigners are worried they will be affected by noise and say the land is too close to homes.

They also claim wind- farms are not economic.

The meeting at Scissett Working Men's Club was organised by Residents Against Windfarm (Raw).

Audrey Booth, a spokesperson for the group, said: "It was a very successful meeting and we feel we have provided people with the facts they need to make an informed choice on the subject of windfarms."

Raw says the turbines will be visible for miles around.

They claim the Government says the minimum distance between turbines and the nearest house should be a mile, but there are thousands of people living within a mile and the closest will be only 350 metres from the site.

Parish councillors have arranged another public meeting on the issue.

It will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 21, in St Augustine's Church at Busker Lane, Scissett.

Alpha Wind, a Danish company behind the plan, says turbines are good for the environment and make economic sense.
