More than 11 acres of council land looks set to be sold off to expand a business park.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet will be asked to give the go-ahead for the sale of land at Bradley Business Park.

It’s claimed development of the land could pave the way for 200 jobs.

Kirklees is not publicising a sale price, nor commenting on how much they could make from the land sale, to ensure ‘best consideration’ when it hits the market.

Council papers say: “Over the last 18 months, the council has been receiving an increasing number of enquiries for light industrial development at edge of centre and out of centre locations, as demonstrated following marketing exercises undertaken for the authority’s land at St Andrew’s Road, Huddersfield and Rawfolds Way, Cleckheaton.

“A shortage of readily available sites means that demand is not being fully accommodated, and as a result some opportunities to attract private investment and to safeguard and create jobs may be lost.”

It’s the final part of the land, off Bradley Road, to be disposed off. Already two phases have been built or part-built, with the NHS and private firms based alongside its neighbouring Pennine Business Park.

Kirklees says the land is suitable for research and development uses, light industry and offices.

It would also be in a prime location if proposals for the M62 come to fruition – Highways England are looking at the feasibility of another sliproad at Bradley Bar, less than a mile from the site.

Clr Jean Calvert, Labour Ashbrow, has endorsed the proposal for marketing and sale for that use.

The issue will be discussed at Kirklees Cabinet on Tuesday.
