A TALENTED student at the University of Huddersfield killed herself within sight of her degree.

An inquest decided yesterday on a suicide verdict on Yvonne Bell.

Miss Bell, 36, was found hanged at her home in Bradshaw, Halifax, by her 13-year-old daughter Jessica on January 21.

And Coroner Roger Whittaker said that she had deliberately set out to take her own life.

The inquest heard how it was a terrible tragedy that no-one could have foreseen.

The only clue was that Miss Bell may have become upset at missing a vital e-mail from London in connection with her design degree.

Mr Whittaker read a report which said Miss Bell became agitated because she felt she had missed an opportunity to e-mail a designer in London with regard to her studies.

In fact she had been offered a work placement with the designer.

She was found by her daughter hanged from the top of the airing cupboard, with a cream scarf around her neck.

Mr Whittaker said: "I reach the conclusion by inference in the careful way in which she was suspended from the scarf, that Yvonne Bell intended to take her own life and, all too sadly, succeeded."

University staff and fellow students were stunned by the death.

Miss Bell was described as a well-liked and respected mature student within three months of completing her BA (Hons) course in Interior Design.

Rod Adams, course leader for interior design said: "Yvonne Bell was a strong, dynamic character who embraced everything the course had to offer.

"She produced striking, colourful work and we were all looking forward to her obtaining a good result at the end.

"We are all devastated by the tragic turn of events and obviously our thoughts go out to her family at this terrible time."
