Administrators have vowed to do all they can to secure a future for a troubled Holmfirth mill.

They have moved in to Westwood Yarns’ Washpit Mills to try and save the business.

And they have more than 130 workers pinning their hopes on their efforts.

At least there was some relief for the workers, who have been promised their wages arrears and holiday pay will be forthcoming.

The staff learned on December 23 that the company had been placed into administration , leaving many of them fearing for their jobs.

Paul Flint and David Costley-Wood, of KPMG LLP, were appointed joint administrators of Westwood Yarns Ltd .

The company, which employs approximately 130 staff, spins specialist yarns at the Washpit Mill in Holmfirth , Yorkshire, primarily for its largest customer, Victoria Carpets. The joint administrators were appointed after the company experienced cash flow difficulties.

Textile manufacturing at Washpit Mills dates back more than 100 years. Westwood Yarns was bought out in October.

The administrators said they will consider options in the coming weeks and have called on any interested parties looking to acquire the business and assets to come forward.

Mr Flint, an associate partner at KPMG, said “It is a difficult time of year for any business to enter administration and our team is in contact with employees at Westwood Yarns to assist them through this period.

“Arrangements are being made to ensure that staff will be paid their arrears of wages and holiday pay for the Christmas period. Over the coming days, we will be in touch with key stakeholders to explore our options, including the possibility of a sale, to maximise the return to the company’s creditors.

“We would encourage any interested parties to make contact as soon as possible.”

Any interested parties should contact John Noon or Mark Wooffinden of KPMG on 0161 246 4801 and 0161 246 4060 respectively.
