Grant applications for youth projects are now open.

Kirklees Council has a funding pot of £132,000 to hand out to voluntary and community organisations which organise arts, crafts, environmental projects, sport and recreation and adventurous activities for young people.

Clr Shabir Pandor, Cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: “These schemes provide a focus for young people during the holidays and at weekends and can be valuable in not only teaching them useful skills and enabling them to keep fit, but can divert them away from antisocial behaviour.

“The schemes are also designed to widen participation and inclusion which will enable some young people who may not have the opportunity before to get involved to enjoy their school holidays.”

Several funds are available.

A holiday activities grant has £82,000 to support activities for young people aged eight to19 or up to 25 if disabled.

The deadline for applications in July 24 and should be to cover projects during October half term, Christmas and February half term, with a second round of funding open until January 14 2015 to cover projects next Easter and Spring Bank.

A further grant fund is for weekend activity programmes with £38,000 available for activities between November and April for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for eight to19-year-olds with a focus on 13 to19year-olds in areas with a history of anti-social behaviour involving young people. The application deadline is August 27.
