A 15-year-old boy has fallen 25ft from a business premises roof in Heckmondwike.

He suffered serious injuries after he climbed on to the roof to retrieve a ball.

But when he got on the roof he walked over a glass panelled area when it gave way and he fell inside the premises, the fire service said.

Fire crews from Dewsbury and Cleckheaton were called to the scene at 9.45 last night.

The boy, who was conscious and breathing, was taken to hospital with his injuries.

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called at 9.45pm to 600 Group business premises in Union Street.

"A 15-year-old boy had fallen approximately 25ft through a skylight panel.

"We attended and were about to force entry when a member of staff arrived and allowed us access.

"The boy was very lucky to not have fallen on anything sharp given, there were metal pallets inside.

"He had been on the roof to retrieve his ball but had not realised that the glass panelled area was weaker and smashed when he walked on it."
