IT was second time unlucky for sports car enthusiast Darrel Turner.

The husband of Clr Julie Stewart-Turner, a former Mayor of Kirklees, is again counting the cost of damage to his beloved Maserati.

The 175mph Maserati 3200 GTA was hit by a Vauxhall Corsa which crashed through the couple’s garden wall at around 7.45am yesterday (fri).

The Corsa had collided with a white car at the junction of Bankfield Park Avenue and Blue Bell Hill, Taylor Hill, before it careered into the councillor’s garden.

Mr Turner’s car sustained damage to the passenger side from the collision and damage to the bonnet from stones which had been knocked off the garden wall.

It is not yet known if the 370hp Italian car is a write-off.

Three years ago, Mr Turner’s Maserati was vandalised when a bucket of acid was thrown over the bonnet.

It is believed that attack was politically motivated.

Police closed Blue Bell Hill and adjacent Fair Lea Road during rush hour yesterday morning.

The 306 bus was diverted via Newsome Road.

The drivers of the two vehicles were not thought to have been seriously injured.

Clr Stewart-Turner, who was Kirklees Mayoress in 2009, said she and her husband were having breakfast when they heard a bang outside.

She said: "We thought a wheelie bin had blown over in the wind but when we went outside it was quite different.

"We were just lucky it was half-term because people would be walking their children to school and there would be people out walking their dogs. It could have been much worse.

"There have been a few little bumps at the junction before but there’s no way of improving it.

"It’s wide and the visibility is good. It’s people not paying attention.

"Thankfully no-one was driving fast or it could have been much worse."
