A SCHEME to help children in deprived areas will give Kirklees £22m between now and the end of March, 2006.
The Government's Sure Start scheme gave this area slightly more than £5m over the last 12 months.
But now the money will be increased four-fold.
There are five Sure Start programmes in Kirklees.
Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman says Sure Start has been a great success.
Mr Sheerman, who is chairman of the Commons education and skills select committee, added:
"Early investment in a child's life and education is essential to breaking the link between poverty and educational underachievement."
