Discount retailer Home Bargains will bring 50 new jobs to Huddersfield when it opens a new store this week.

The retailer is investing approximately £500,000 in the new store in Huddersfield, which will be officially opened on Saturday, March 5.

The chain has taken over the former Comet warehouse on the Leeds Road Retail Park.

The company, which is one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, is creating up to 50 new jobs in the community with its latest store.

It will be the third Home Bargains store to open in Huddersfield, joining 400 outlets across the UK.

The retailer already has a store in New Street, Huddersfield, and another on the Gallagher Retail Park at Waterloo.

Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Saturday’s opening event will feature a special appearance from children’s favourite Stuart from the hit Universal Pictures films, Minions and Despicable Me.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our third store in Huddersfield and look forward to welcoming both new and existing customers through the doors.”

The 30,000 sq ft unit, which neighbours Staples, B&Q and Argos, will offer Huddersfield shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks as well as fresh and frozen food.

Mr Morris added: “Leeds Road will be a great location for us and we’re pleased to be a new addition to the local business community.

“We’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

The firm claims more than 3.5 million customers each week, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.

The firm started as TJ Morris which was established over 30 years ago by Tom Morris. Since opening his first store in Liverpool, he has grown the business organically to become one of the biggest privately owned companies in the UK.

The company now boasts some 400 stores and employs more than 16,000 staff.
