A woman was thrown to the ground after a man stole her handbag.

The robbery happened between 5.15am and 5.30am on Saturday as the 55-year-old victim was walking to work along Fartown Green Road, Huddersfield.

All of a sudden she became aware of someone standing directly behind her.

The man grabbed her handbag, pulling it off her shoulder and as she kept hold of her bag he threw her to the ground.

He ran off with the bag.

Another man came to her aid and managed to recover the handbag but a purse had been stolen which had some money in it.

The suspect is described as an Asian man, 5ft 2”ins tall, of slim build. He had dark hair and was clean shaven.

He was wearing dark jeans and a dark, lightweight summer coat.

PC Nicole Senior of Kirklees CID, said: “The victim was understandably shaken up by this incident and I would like to appeal to the public for anyone who witnessed this to come forward to assist with our enquiries.

“I would also like to appeal to the man who bravely came to the assistance of the victim to contact the police.
