A NEW £60,000 pelican crossing aims to provide pedestrian safety on a busy road in Birchencliffe.
Residents had demanded the safety measure at Halifax Road.
Kirklees Council officers, who struggled to find a suitable place, have chosen a spot next to the Briar Court Hotel.
Work on the project starts next Monday and will take about four weeks.
Clr David Payne, Kirklees Council Cabinet member responsible for environment and transport matters, said: "It has not been easy to find the right site, as the amenities on this road are dispersed over quite a length. Also, in places, sight-lines are not good.
"However, I am content we have found the best compromise."
Temporary traffic lights may be in use outside peak traffic times while the crossing is built.
