COMMUNITY groups are missing a golden opportunity.

Grants of up to £7,000 are up for grabs for groups working with children throughout Kirklees.

From equipment for a playgroup to resources for a homework club, a summer play scheme, junior football club or youth club all could be funded to make a community's dreams come true.

The Government's Local Network Fund, a treasure chest for projects involving youngsters from infants to 19-year-olds, is trying to reach out to more community groups in the Kirklees area.

Grants manager Megan Vickery said: "There is money there to be spent. One phone call could set people on the way to making a difference to the lives of young people in Kirklees."

To apply for a grant call 0845 113 0161. The pack includes guidelines on how to fill it in.

Decisions are announced within 12 weeks of the applications being submitted.
