Police are stepping up patrols after a 78-year-old pensioner has become the latest victim to bogus callers in Liversedge.

The woman allowed the caller into her house in Listing Drive after he claimed to need to check her water and add blue dye into it to check it.

While she was in the kitchen with the first man, two other men entered the house and searched a bedroom and the living room.

They stole £200 cash from her purse and a substantial quantity of cash from her bedroom.

This is the latest in a string of this kind of crime which is called distraction burglary.

Police have repeatedly warned people in Kirklees to be aware that unsavoury characters are operating and have since set up a special task force to monitor these crimes.

Det Insp Ian Thornes said: “We are stepping up patrols to increase awareness that these suspects are operating.

“They are targeting the elderly and the vulnerable.”

In unrelated investigations, police would like to speak to the people pictured in the image gallery below. The people pictured in the images may be witnesses as well as suspects. If you recognise anyone, contact police on 101 quoting the reference number on the image caption.
