A CRACKPOT with a heart of gold is set to sell himself into slavery - to help the Examiner tsunami fundraising appeal.

Mick Madden, 51, has pledged to do someone's bidding for a day as a raffle prize in The Examiner's appeal to help people affected by the devastating event in southern Asia.

Big-hearted Mick, from Brockholes, said he was touched by the disaster.

He added: "I like a laugh, but everybody has been affected by the tsunami.

"It has been astounding how people have rallied around and put their hands in their pockets to help out."

Mick said he had been wondering what to give to our raffle prizes.

He added: "I thought about different things, then thought why not give up my time for a day. It's a little bit different, and I like doing things differently.

"If people win me as a prize I'm up for anything.

"I'm a jack of all trades and can turn my hand to almost anything. I've even been a pavement artist in Paris."

Other prizes in the raffle - to be drawn on February 28 - include an Amsterdam mini-cruise, a £750 front door, a £600 bathroom suite and a gym membership for two worth £500.

Raffle tickets costing £1 are available at our customer reception area on Queen Street South, Kitson's newsagents on Princess Alexandra Walk and the Good Food Business on Upperhead Row, opposite the bus station.

Jonsteds Garage at Brockholes is also selling tickets.
