AN ambulance driver was seen talking on her mobile phone while waiting at traffic lights, 30 minutes before she was in collision with a motorcyclist, an inquest heard.
Ambulance technician Samantha Oates, 38, was also said to have been seen driving recklessly before fatally colliding with great-grandfather Sydney Norcliffe, 79, of Barkisland.
He died on April 13 when his 650cc Suzuki ploughed into the Mercedes Sprinter ambulance, which had just turned into his lane.
After hitting the ambulance he and his bike slid some 20 metres, smashing into a stone wall.
He died instantly after having suffered multiple fractures to his skull and several broken bones in his body.
The Halifax inquest was told that Mrs Oates had enough time and a clear view in her passenger side rear-view mirror to see retired mechanic Mr Norcliffe approaching.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
Mrs Oates is to face a charge of careless driving in January.
