HUDDERSFIELD New College pupils have been rewarded for their achievements.

Students were given awards for achievements in academic and social aspects of college life at a presentation evening last night.

One the of awards, the Ateeq Rehman Award for Tourism, was won by Adrian Calvert. The award is in memory of former New College pupil Ateeq Ur-Rehman, who died in an arson attack last May.

Principal Philip Forrest told students, governors and parents that 2003 had been a successful year for GCSEs and A levels.

He said to students: "This is due not only to your hard work but also that of your teachers and the support you have received from your parents."

He said the college has good results from its sporting pupils, especially the football and cross-country teams. He added that the college had achieved a healthy college standard and the eco-campus award.
