HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has asked Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to urgently consider imposing sanctions on Israel.
Mr Sheerman said: "I am increasingly concerned about the so- called `security barrier' that the Israeli Government has put in place.
"It is dividing innocent Palestinian families and cutting them off from essential services."
The Israelis are constructing the world's longest security fence around the West Bank which it says is to keep out terrorists and suicide bombers.
It includes concrete walls, electric fences and trenches with sniper towers.
A UN report has condemned the barrier as illegal and says about 210,000 Palestinians would be cut off from social services, schools and places of work.
Mr Sheerman said: "I have written to Jack Straw urging him to consider sanctions on Israel.
"It is important that we send out the message that it is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by the int- ernational community.
"The fragile situation in the Middle East is not being helped by the erection of a wall dividing communities and families."
