A HUDDERSFIELD celebrity has thrown his weight behind a campaign to build a children's hospice.

Actor Paul Warriner, who has starred in ITV drama Fat Friends and popular soap Coronation Street, is lending his support to the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

The trust was set up in 1998 to raise cash for a children's hospice and respite centre for patients in the Kirklees and Calderdale area.

Paul, who lives near Greenhead Park with his wife Anne and daughters, Grace and Esther, said: "I am happy to get involved with the trust to help increase its profile.

"I think it's a cause that anybody with a heart would care about, especially if you have kids, because you know they are there but for the grace of God."

Paul, best known his love rat role in Coronation Street as the lecturer boyfriend of Toyah Battersby, also has another string to his bow.

"As an actor I am not in demand every day of the year," he said.

"But as it is, I love gardening, so I am looking into turning that into a business at the moment."

He hopes his gardening skills will also come in handy when a suitable site for the hospice is found.

"It could be a few years down the line, but if I can help I certainly will," he said.

For now he is content supporting the charity by taking part in fundraising events.
