A SPORTS day was held to promote the value of a healthy body.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) came from across the north east for a regional get-together in Huddersfield.

Groups from Hartlepool, Keighley, Leeds, Scunthorpe and Bradford travelled to the Lower Fitzwilliam Street Mosque for games of volleyball, table tennis and a team quiz.

The regional sports day, being hosted in Huddersfield for the first time, was rounded off with a barbecue.

Huddersfield AMA external affairs spokesman Fatihul Haq said: “Activities like these are an integral and regular part of the life of a Muslim.

“It is well known about the spiritual and moral demands of Islam on its believers, but what is less known is Islam’s position on the need for a fit body and fit mind.

“Ahmadi Muslims are taught to and encouraged to nurture the mind, body and spirit for the benefit of mankind.”
