MUSLIMS gathered at a Huddersfield mosque at the weekend to break the Ramadan fast together.

More than 150 people attended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association’s premises at Lower Fitzwilliam Street on Saturday evening.

External affairs secretary Fatihul Haq said: “We invited families to come and eat in the mosque so as the ladies would be free from having to cook at home.”

Prayers were said before and after the meal.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, runs from September 1 to September 30 this year. Muslims observe Ramadan by praying, reading the Koran and abstaining from all food and drink during daylight hours.

Mr Haq said: “It promotes brotherhood, harmony and peace. Ramadan reminds us of people who have little to eat and is a means of purifying ourselves.”
