CLASSIC pantomime caper Aladdin is coming to Flockton.

Magic carpets, enchanted lamps, wish-granting genies and a love story, are all crammed into the latest show by Flockton and District Drama Group.

They will stage the pantomime on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm at Flockton Green Working Men's Club.

Aladdin is one of the most popular pantomimes. The story was first performed as a pantomime at Covent Garden on Boxing Day in 1788 - a time when people were obsessed with anything vaguely oriental. This meant the costumes were a heady mix of Chinese, Japanese and Persian styles.

Two hundred years later, the trend for colourful costumes has not died out - cast member Malcolm Ball has outrageous outfits as comic dame Widow Twankey.

Tickets for the show cost £4.50 or £3.50 for concessions. Contact Maureen Parkinson on 01924 840412.
