A business audience failed to catch out cricketing legend Alec Stewart at a breakfast event in Huddersfield.

The former Surrey and England captain was the guest at a breakfast event staged by Yorkshire Bank at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.

The batsman-wicketkeeper, who is an ambassador for Yorkshire Bank, fielded a host of questions on cricketing topics from the audience.

England’s most capped Test player, who is now an executive director at Surrey CCC, spoke about his career highlights, his most difficult opponents, favourite cricketing venues and issues such as the popularity of T20, match-fixing and the role of technology in helping umpiring decisions.

Andy Davidson, head of Yorkshire Bank’s West Yorkshire Business and Private Banking Centre, which covers Kirklees, said: “We’re grateful that Alec Stewart has given up time in his busy schedule to meet and talk to local business people.

“There are many similarities between captaining a successful sports side and running a successful business and we are sure that the audience will be very interested in what he has to say.”

The event included a raffle for a cricket bat signed by Alec and tickets to a Yorkshire Bank 40 match.

Proceeds were for the bank’s chosen charity, Help the Hospices.
