LOCAL film-makers were given the opportunity to showcase their talents.

The films were shown at the Creative Kirklees Summit at the Lawrence Batley Theatre organised by the Huddersfield Creative Arts Network (HCAN).

Ten film-makers from diverse backgrounds produced 10 very different short films, which HCAN put together under the banner “Huddersfield, I’m lovin’ it”, inspired by the recent McDonald’s advert filmed in the town.

The films included Winter in Huddersfield by Jake Sykes – a lyrical tour contrasting the beauty of the landscape with parkour through urban landmarks.

Think Bright Lights, Big City ... Think Huddersfield! by students of the University of Huddersfield is a remake of the classic opening scene of Woody Allen’s film Manhattan.

Nathan Page, who with Kieran McDonnell entered the short film Mashdonalds – a spoof of the original ad – said: “Having a video that we made on a whim shown to a room full of people felt incredible.

“It was great to see everyone enjoying the videos and showing support.’’

HCAN chairwoman Carole Pattison said: “We were hugely impressed with the high quality of the films submitted as well as the eclectic nature of the subject matter, from a short that imagined aliens descending on Huddersfield to an animated story about a child soldier.

“As a group our mission is to provide a catalyst for creative people to showcase their abilities and the film showing proved that there is a lot of talent in Huddersfield that we’d like to see reaching a wider audience.”

HCAN, a not-for-profit, community-led organisation, designed the event as a preview for a film incubator planned for later this year and the call is still out for short films to be included in this later event.

Films should be uploaded to YouTube and shared using the Huddersfield Creative Arts Network Facebook page or on Twitter using the hashtag #huddsimlovinit.
