A Huddersfield University worker has admitted more than £20,000 worth of benefit fraud.

Alison Barrett, of Curzon Street in Bradley, pleaded guilty to three charges of dishonestly making a false statement to obtain a benefit between July 2007 and January last year.

Barrett, 60, claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance and housing and council tax benefits.

Robert Campbell, prosecuting, told Kirklees magistrates: “The lady was claiming benefits and didn’t tell the benefits agencies that she was working for the University of Huddersfield. This resulted in a £22,000 overpayment over a substantial period of time.”

Magistrates ordered a full report before sentencing Barrett on July 7.
